Cody Benson – Owner and Project Director

Cody Benson is the owner of Bencar Building Systems, LLC and represents the next generation of the family business. After graduating from Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in Business Management, Cody joined Bencar full-time the Monday after graduation. He spent the next 10 years working hands-on in the field, gaining invaluable experience in every aspect of residential remodeling before transitioning into the office in 2022.

Today, Cody meets with homeowners, develops project estimates, oversees construction, and ensures every project stays on schedule from start to finish. His years in the field provide him with a practical understanding of construction that allows him to guide clients through the remodeling process with confidence and offer thoughtful recommendations based on real-world experience.

Cody enjoys the creativity and variety that every remodeling project brings. No two homes—or homeowners—are alike, and he finds it rewarding to help clients transform their ideas into beautiful, functional spaces that they'll enjoy for years to come.

Like his father before him, Cody believes that communication, reliability, and quality craftsmanship are the foundation of a successful remodeling experience. He takes pride in treating every client with respect, keeping projects moving efficiently, and standing behind the work performed by the Bencar team. Around the office, one motto has always remained true: "If you're five minutes early, you're late." It's a philosophy that reflects the company's commitment to professionalism and respect for every homeowner's time.

When he's not working, Cody enjoys spending time with his wife, Emily, and their two cocker spaniels, Bella and Baisley. He's an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, New York Giants, and UConn men's basketball, and enjoys fishing, golfing, and hiking the trails at Sleeping Giant State Park.

Mark Benson — Founder

Mark Benson founded Bencar Building Systems after bringing more than four decades of construction experience to Connecticut. A California native, Mark got his start in the construction industry working alongside his uncle in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he developed a passion for building and craftsmanship that would shape his career.

Before relocating to Connecticut in 1995, Mark worked as a project manager for a respected design-build firm in Sonoma County. After obtaining his Connecticut Home Improvement Contractor license, he established Bencar Building Systems with a commitment to delivering exceptional craftsmanship, honest communication, and a remodeling experience homeowners could trust.

Throughout his career, Mark has taken great pride in turning clients' remodeling dreams into reality while ensuring every project is completed with quality workmanship, careful planning, and attention to detail. His leadership helped establish the reputation Bencar has built over more than 25 years serving Connecticut homeowners.

Today, Mark remains actively involved with the company on a part-time basis, supervising projects and mentoring the next generation of leadership. His decades of hands-on experience continue to be an invaluable resource for both the Bencar team and its clients.

Outside of work, Mark enjoys spending time with his wife, Nancy, their son Cody, and his wife Emily, riding bikes on trails in Connecticut, and tending to his flower and vegetables garden.

Nancy Benson – Operations Manager

Nancy Benson left her customer service career with a local insurance broker to help launch Bencar Building Systems, managing the office while Mark oversaw the projects. Over the years, she's enjoyed watching the company grow from a small family business into one of Connecticut's trusted remodeling contractors and takes great pride in everything Bencar has accomplished.

Nancy has developed many of the systems, worksheets, checklists, and processes that keep the office running smoothly and guide homeowners from their first inquiry through the completion of their remodeling project. She continues to oversee the day-to-day operations of the office, working alongside her son, Cody, who now leads the company as owner. Having the opportunity to work together as a second-generation family business has been one of the most rewarding chapters in Bencar's history.

These days, Nancy works four days a week, focusing on the areas she enjoys most, supporting the team, managing Bencar's social media, creating marketing content, and showcasing the beautiful remodeling projects the company completes for its clients.

Outside of work, Nancy enjoys researching her family history, writing about her genealogy discoveries on her family blog, riding bikes with her husband Mark, and taking photos of the flowers in their garden.

Lisa Burns – Client Manager

Lisa Burns started with Bencar Building Systems in November 2021 and says she wakes up every day and can’t wait to get to the office!

She loves the details of every project and appreciates how organized Bencar’s process is. Everyday brings new challenges that give her the opportunity to expand her knowledge which will in turn help her to better service Bencar’s customers.

She meets the clients on initial appointments or for the pre-project walk through and she is their go-to person through the project. She’s also a great photographer and visits many projects on completion for the website gallery.

After hours Lisa likes to spend time with her partner Rich and their American black Lab Gracie.

Evan Huber – Crew Leader / Carpenter

Evan joined the Bencar Building Systems team in January of 2015 and has proven to be a positive addition. He enjoys being part of our team and is happy with his co-workers and working side by side with them.

The part of the job he feels is most rewarding is making connections with the homeowners during the project and seeing their reaction to the final project when it's completed. Evan's expertise in trim work, taping and painting is an asset to the Bencar team.

Evan enjoys construction because he likes the different locations, new people, and that each job is unique. Homeowners always remark on how meticulous he is with their projects.

Outside of the job he enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, Erin, as well as their two dogs.

Nick Velardi – Carpenter

Nick has been with Bencar since December of 2022 and we are so delighted to have him with us!

In his short amount of time here, he loves how everyone works together as a team. There can be a mixing of the crews without an issue and everyone has good chemistry.

He is new to the remodeling industry but has always enjoyed carpentry work and Cody was impressed with what he saw in the home Nick and his wife had recently purchased. Nick considers himself to be skilled at trim work, framing, and window and door installations.

Outside of work he enjoys playing softball and golfing, and spending time with his wife, Jenna.

Greg Agro – Carpenter

Greg started out as our framing contractor and we were so happy when he decided to join us full time.

He says he loves working for Bencar because he feels employees are treated like family. All the carpenters get along well and the office staff enjoys seeing everyone at the end of the day.

Greg is great at all phases of carpentry but he says he really enjoys demo, trim, painting, roofing, and sheetrock. He gets satisfaction from making something old look brand new for homeowners.

He has a lot of outside interests which include going to rock concerts, the beach and hanging out at bonfires all with his wife Debbie.
