Mark Benson — Owner

Mark Benson, owner of Bencar Building Systems, was born and raised in the California Bay Area and has been in this profession 44 years. He started in the construction business with his Uncle who inspired him and this is where his passion grew to enter construction.

After moving to Connecticut in 1995, he realized quickly that his experience in California would be beneficial to homeowners here. He went ahead and obtained his Connecticut remodeler's license and re-established what he started in California here in Connecticut. He likes building and creating things with his hands and watching projects come together.

He takes pride in being sure the job is completed in a reasonable time frame and stands behind the quality of work that his employees perform. Mark possesses strong management skills to be sure the job continues to progress and all moving components stay on task. The part of the job that he truly enjoys is making a client's remodeling dream a reality.

Outside of work Mark enjoys taking rides on his motorcycle, spending time with his wife, son and his dog Wally. He also loves to put his feet up and relax and fish at his cottage on the lake.

Nancy Benson – Operations Manager

Nancy Benson left her customer service job with a local insurance broker to get Bencar Building Systems started and handled the office while Mark handled the projects. She loves how the business has grown and is proud of what they’ve created. It always thrills her to see the completed project!

Through the years, Nancy has created worksheets, checklists, and the process that anyone coming into the position can follow to take a homeowner from a prospect to a satisfied homeowner with a completed project.

In the business Nancy enjoys working Bencar’s social media accounts, creating content and working with the project pictures.

Outside the business she likes working on her family tree, ancestry research, and writing about her findings in her family blog on WordPress. She loves working out on her Peloton bike doing all the classes available to her there. She’s an on-again, off-again knitter and piano player.

Cody Benson – Project Manager

Cody Benson came to work for Bencar the Monday after his college graduation from Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in Business Management. He worked in the field for 10 years before coming in the office of July 2022. He stepped right in going on appointments, pricing projects, and supervising projects.

He loves the different projects Bencar works on for each homeowner. He finds it very rewarding to turn their dream into a reality.

He enjoys the variety of homeowners Bencar works with and appreciates all the unique styles and tastes from job to job. He’s seen many project over his 10 years in the field to be able to offer constructive opinions of a project.

He takes after his father in that he take pride in being on time, and people who are on time because it shows consideration to others. “If you’re five minutes early, you’re late” is their motto.

Outside of work he enjoys watching the Red Sox, the New York Giants, and UConn men’s basketball. He enjoys fishing and golfing. He and his wife Emily have two cocker spaniels Bella and Baisley and they all love going on walks or hikes up Sleeping Giant.

Lisa Burns – Client Manager

Lisa Burns started with Bencar Building Systems in November 2021 and says she wakes up every day and can’t wait to get to the office!

She loves the details of every project and appreciates how organized Bencar’s process is. Everyday brings new challenges that give her the opportunity to expand her knowledge which will in turn help her to better service Bencar’s customers.

She meets the clients on initial appointments or for the pre-project walk through and she is their go-to person through the project. She’s also a great photographer and visits many projects on completion for the website gallery.

After hours Lisa likes to spend time with her partner Rich and their American black Lab Gracie.

Evan Huber – Crew Leader / Carpenter

Evan joined Bencar in January of 2015 and he is a positive and hardworking carpenter. It’s obvious to homeowners how much he cares about their projects.

He is very capable in all areas of carpentry but really enjoys trim work, taping, painting, and refinishing bathrooms!

To Evan, the most rewarding part of his job is the connections he makes with homeowners and their reaction to the completed project. Homeowners always remark on how meticulous he is with their projects.

Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his wife, Erin, and their two dogs.

Rocco DeBernardi – Carpenter

Rocco is our youngest employee and has been with us since April of 2022. He was no stranger to the Benson family though as he and Nancy had been Little Brother and Big Sister from 2008 through 2020. It sometimes feels like we have two sons working with us.

Rocco loves the detailed schedule on each job he works on and he enjoys his days with co-workers. He quickly learned the routine and is very comfortable hanging sheetrock, taping, and painting.

He enjoys meeting homeowners and making connections with them. Rocco is a great conversationalist and is really interested in learning about people.

Outside of work he enjoys cooking! He also likes to workout at the gym, and he spends time with his mother and grandmother every weekend.

Nick Velardi – Carpenter

Nick has been with Bencar since December of 2022 and we are so delighted to have him with us!

In his short amount of time here, he loves how everyone works together as a team. There can be a mixing of the crews without an issue and everyone has good chemistry.

He is new to the remodeling industry but has always enjoyed carpentry work and Cody was impressed with what he saw in the home Nick and his wife had recently purchased. Nick considers himself to be skilled at trim work, framing, and window and door installations.

Outside of work he enjoys playing softball and golfing, and spending time with his wife, Jenna.

Greg Agro – Carpenter

Greg is the brother of Craig and they work together as one of our crews. Greg started out as our framing contractor and we were so happy when he decided to join us full time.

He says he loves working for Bencar because he feels employees are treated like family. All the carpenters get along well and the office staff enjoys seeing everyone at the end of the day.

Greg is great at all phases of carpentry but he says he really enjoys demo, trim, painting, roofing, and sheetrock. He gets satisfaction from making something old look brand new for homeowners.

He has a lot of outside interests which include going to rock concerts, the beach and hanging out at bonfires all with his wife Debbie.

Craig Agro – Carpenter

Craig has worked with Bencar Building Systems in a few different roles for close to 20 years.

Craig has many skills but he really enjoys the trim work on all his projects. His attention to detail and his expert carpentry skills are something he won’t mention, but we will! He is just amazing at everything from custom cabinetry to additions.

He says he really enjoys seeing the happiness on a homeowners’ face when they see their completed project.

Outside of work he enjoys golfing, skiing, mountain biking and eating! We call him the Cookie Monster because he loves sweets.

He and his wife Darcy have twin sons who are now both out of the house and in the working world.
